Question 1: Use the term constituency and represent to explain who is an MLA is and how is the person elected?
Answer: The person elected as a representative represents that particular constituency. He/she is called as a Member of Legislative Assembly i.e. MLA. An MLA is elected through a general election. He/she may be a member of a recognized political party or independent.
Question 2: Why should decision taken by the Chief Minister and other Minister be debated in the Legislative Assembly?
Answer: Decisions taken by the Chief Minister and other Minister is debated in the Legislative Assembly because these decisions have to be approved by the members of Legislative Assembly. The MLAs are collectively responsible for the work that a government does.
Question 3: What is the role of the party that does not form the government?
Answer: As per the constitution all the parties which do not take part in the formation of government are called opposition party. In our democratic setup, the role of opposition parties is no way less important than the ruling party. The opposition parties keep a watch over the functioning of the ruling party. They take part in every discussion and debate held at the Assembly. They can check and protest any wrong action of the government.
Question 4: What is the difference between the work that MLAs do in the assembly and work done by the government departments?
Answer: The difference between the work that MLA do in the assembly and the work done by the government department is that every department is headed by a Minister who is also an MLA. The Minister approves any work done or proposed by the department.
Question 5: Why is Press Conference organised?
Answer: A Press Conference is a meeting, organised for the purpose of officially the distributing information to the media and answering questions from reporters.
Question 6: Define the following
i) Government
ii) Constituency
iii) Legislative Assembly
Answer:
i) The term ‘government’ refers to government department and various Ministers who head them.
ii) Every state is divided into a number of areas or constituencies. A particular area from where all the voters living there to their representative is called a constituency.
iii) It comprises representative of the people as they are elected directly by them. The member of legislative assembly a granted legislative power by the constitution.
