Poem - The Road Not Taken
Writer of the poem - Robert Frost
Summary
Robert Frost is an American poet who is known for his simple poems that are insightful. He was awarded “Pulitzer Prize” 4 times. He was the only poet who was invited to speak at Presidential Inauguration of Robert Kennedy. It was Edward Thomas’ habit of taking long walks across the country along with the poet that inspired Robert Frost to write this poem.
Life is full of choices that shape us in the long run. The choices we make sometimes are easy and at times tough. They have long term implications on the future of the person. These critical decisions that we make in our lives have long term implications.
In the opening lines of the poem, the poet says that he walking through a forest and that there were two paths ahead of him. He stood perplexed trying to decide on the path to be chosen. He examines both of them and chooses to travel by the path less travelled, besides seemed to be a better choice. Making this decision, he tries to convince himself that it has better prospects though he knows that he would never come back to change his decision in life.
The sigh in the closing line of the poem doesn’t indicate regret or relieve as the poet’s emotions or consequences of choosing the path are not mentioned in the poem though the title talks of ‘The Road Not Taken’. It could certainly not mean that the poet regretted his decision nor that it shows that he was happy.
