Format of Book Review
Reading is a good habit, no doubt about that. But, most of fear reading books due to the fear of not knowing what a book review is when asked by a librarian. Most of us don't know what exactly a book review is or how to write... Once you know what a book review is and how to write, I'm sure you'll never fear it again... Before starting the post let us first know what a book review is? Well, a book review is a descriptive and critical/evaluative account of a book. It provides a brief summary of the content, assesses the value of the book, and recommends whether the book is useful or interesting to the potential readers. Now knowing what a book review is, we'll now know the format of a book review. The format of the book review will be like this:1. Title of the book:
The first heading of any book review should be the title. It is the area where you mention the title of the book. You have to mention the full title of the book. You can't write it in short form!
2. Author of the book:
After the title is the author's name. In this you have to mention who is the author of the book. You can also briefly summarize the author's biography.
3. Edition:
After the author's name is the edition of the book. Here, you've to mention the edition of the book.
4. Name and address of publisher:
After the edition is the name and address of publisher. In this you've to mention the name as well as the address of publisher.
5. Place of publication:
After the name and address of publisher comes the place of publication. Here you have to mention the place where the book was published.
6. Year of Publication:
After place of publication comes the year of publication which means when was the book published.
7. Price (of that book):
Below the year of publication is the price of that book on which you’re writing the book review.
8. ISBN number:
Below the price comes the ISBN number. ISBN number stands for International Standard Book Number.
9. Accession Number:
Next comes the Accession number which means a sequential number assigned to each record or item as it is added to a to a library collection or database and which indicates the chronological order of its acquisition.
10. Date of issue:
After the accession number is the date of issue. Date of issue means when you’d borrowed this book.
11. Number of pages:
Just below the date of issue is the number of pages. Number of pages means the total number of pages in that book.
12. Content (summary):
Next comes the content of story or the summary of the story. In this you have to explain in brief about the book.
13. View of point (about the book):
Last but not the least comes the view of point which means rating of book. Under this topic, you have to opinion your thought about how was the book.
Kindly note that all of these headings should be in sequence. It should not be jumbled...
