Question 1: What were some of the major religious development during this period?
Answer: During this period important changes occurred in the Hindu religion. The Hindus started worshipping new deities. The construction of temples by the royalty and the growing importance of Brahmanas, the priests were other development of this period.
Question 2: How were the affairs of jatis regulated?
Answer: The fields of jatis regulated by an assembly of elders known as jati panchayat in some areas. The jatis were required to follow the rules of their village which were governed by the chieftain.
Question 3: What does the term Pan-regional Empire mean?
Answer: The term Pan-regional Empire means an Empire spanning diverse region.
Question 4: Why did the Brahmanas become important in the Hindu society?
Answer: Brahmanas become important in Hindu society because of worship of deities, the construction of temple by royalty and their knowledge of Sanskrit text.
Question 5: In what ways has the meaning of term ‘Hindustan’ changed over the centuries?
Answer:
• When the term was used in 13th century by Minhaj-I-Siraj a chronicler who wrote in Persian. He meant the areas of Punjab, Haryana and the lands between Ganga and Yamuna.
• In early 16th century Babur used the term Hindustan to describe fauna and the culture of inhabitants of the subcontinent.
• In modern nation, it is meant India.
Question 6: Define the following term
a) Cartographer - A person who makes map.
b) Archive - A place where document and manuscripts are stored.
c) Patron - An influential wealthy individual who supports another person - an artist, a craft person, a learned man or a noble.
