Poem - Fire and Ice
Writer of the poem - Robert FrostSummary
Robert Frost’s poem, ‘Fire and Ice’ represents the profound idea that world would end either of two ways, by fire or ice. Both the components are compared with s elf destructing human tendencies of ‘Desire’ and ‘Hatred’. Fire represents ‘desire’ while ice represents ‘hatred’. The poem very artistically fortifies the philosophy that we let our emotions rule us and if we do not control them, they will surely destroy everything around us. Similarly, he thinks fire and ice, both are just as competent in bringing the world to a catastrophic end.
In this figurative and symbolic poem, Frost puts forth scientific assumptions and imagination of his time. (the nine lines of the poem are symbolic of the nine rings in Dante’s inferno)
The poem strongly depicts the power of desire and hatred to destroy.
